Project Overview

The University of Washington’s September, 2006 acquisition of more than a half million square feet of property in the University District, formerly held by Safeco Insurance, has provided the university with a landmark opportunity to improve the efficiency of the institution’s leased space portfolio, consolidate functions that were dispersed around the Puget Sound Region due to the former lease restrictions in the University District, and to set the stage for future redevelopment and reuse of released campus facilities. The property was acquired at a cost equal to approximately one-third the average cost of new construction.

Tower Signage

The new "University of Washington" and "W" signs have been installed on the UW Tower buildings.  The signs are backlit, so at night they look spectacular!

Tower Cafe Opens!

The Tower Café is now open! Café hours are weekdays, 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and offerings include a variety of local, natural and organic selections.
Located on the 4th floor mezzanine, the café will be available to UW Tower staff as well as faculty, staff, students and guests in the building for official business. MasterCard and Visa are accepted.

Gourmet sandwiches and salads are made on-premises, prepared fresh each morning and paired with our soup du jour. The Essential Baking Company, a certified organic bakery located in Wallingford, provides organic sandwich breads and rolls, artisan pastries and desserts. Bagel Oasis, located in Ravenna, provides bagels, which are all natural and boiled then baked in the authentic New York style. Mighty O Donuts, located in Greenlake, provides organic, dairy-free donuts.

The café serves 100% certified fair trade, organic, shade-grown espresso. Tully's Coffee provides the coffees, which are handcrafted in small batches using vintage cast iron roasters from the 1950s. Tower Café offers a full espresso menu, including organic teas, tea lattes and refreshing iced drinks. The Tower Café will offer casual catering services perfect for morning and afternoon meeting breaks.
